NEWBORN SESSIONS:
What to expect:
Before your session
First, Congratulations on your little bundle of joy!! Once you have decided to book a newborn session, we will tenatively plan your session around your due date. Yes, I know.. babies come on their own time (4 of mine were waaay earlier than planned) but that will give me a base line for a date. Once your baby is born, you'll need to contact me to confirm the date or change it to better accomodate.
Sessions usually occur before the baby is 2 weeks old. Why? Babies usually photograph the best during the first 10 days or so, they sleep better, don't have colic yet, and usually haven't developed "baby acne" yet. If you have had a c-section mom, we will want to shoot for the later of the two weeks. Some moms even send dad with baby to the studio.
During your session
Sessions are expected to last over an hour, sometimes two, depends on babies cooperation, and include several poses. Clients are advised to allow for extra time. Make sure baby is fed, and try to keep them up for a long period of time before the session.
What to bring:
Headbands, any special stuffies or blankets you would like incorporated.
Don't bother with outfits. Really, lets focus on props (hats, bows or diaper covers). You probably got some really cute outfits saved for your baby. I advice you to save those for another session. Babies come in such little bodies, and that outfit you put on them would look ginormous. My goal is to keep the simple beauty of your baby. Not all images from your session will have the baby wearing only their birthday suits, I have some wraps and diaper covers to use which covers the baby perfectly without adding too much bulk. EXCEPTION: I have an exception to this rule. I have photographed some babies in their blessing outfits. Those ones I would exempt from this rule only if we can still see the baby's face.
